HOW DEPENDABLE IS GOD?
Three promises from the Lord God are contained in Isaiah 41:10, “Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (NAS).
The last sentence in the verse contains God’s promises: “… I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” After two powerfully energizing commands in this verse, God says what He will do in response to our obedience to His commands. He promises to strengthen you and help you and uphold you with His righteous right hand. The word “surely” is used twice in the NAS translation.
I would outline Isaiah 41:10 in the following way:
1. God gives 2 commands:
“Do not fear”
“Do not anxiously look around you”
2. God gives 2 reassurances:
“I am with you”
“I am your God”
3. God gives 3 promises:
“I will strengthen you”
“Surely I will help you”
“Surely I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”
As taught throughout the Scriptures and substantiated in believers’ lives, God delivers on His promises when we live obediently to Him. He fulfills His promises when we obey what He says to do.
Therefore with Isaiah 41:10 in mind, as you choose to trust God and do what He says: to not be immobilized by fear but be courageous instead, and to not anxiously look around you at your adverse circumstances such that you become distracted from the power and presence of God but instead give your attention to the Lord and His truth and authority over all – THEN He will strengthen you and help you and uphold you. He will do all three for you. These are the promises God makes to us, and He will deliver on them as we bring our lives in line with what He says in the Bible. Nothing and no one can outmatch God’s strength, help, and support. How dependable is God? He’s as dependable as you are dependent on Him.
